Periodontal Specialist

An estimated 50% of UK residents have some form of periodontal, or gum, disease.

Left untreated, it can loosen the tissues surrounding your teeth, causing tooth loss and increasing your risk of diabetes and heart disease.

Let the specialists at Smile Clinic Group restore your gums to a state of good health and help you prevent further problems.

What are the signs of gum disease?

Periodontal disease has many signs.

They include:

  • Tender, swollen and red gums.
  • Frequent gum bleeding.
  • Receding gum line.
  • Loose teeth.
  • Chronic bad breath.

What treatments are available?

At Smile Clinic Group we offer the following treatments to reverse gum disease and prevent any future onset:

  • Pocket Reduction – Also known as osseous surgery and flap surgery, pocket reduction removes bacteria from the roots of your teeth, preventing infection.
  • Gum Grafts – This procedure treats exposed roots and other problems caused by gingival recession. Tissue taken from the roof of your mouth is applied to cover the roots and re-stabilise the gum line.
  • Scaling and Root Planing – Scaling removes plaque and tartar from above the gum line while planing smoothes out the root to prevent re-infection.
  • Regenerative Surgery – This procedure typically uses bone grafts to restore bone and tissue damaged by bacterial invasion.

When caught in the early stages, periodontal disease can be treated non-surgically. But if surgery is advisable, we will go the extra mile to ensure that your treatment is comfortable.
