Our Environmental Priorities 1. Energy Efficiency and Carbon Reduction We will work towards reducing energy consumption across our dental practices through energy-efficient lighting, equipment, heating and operational improvements. We will explore renewable energy opportunities where commercially and operationally feasible.
2. Sustainable Procurement We will work with suppliers and partners to encourage environmentally responsible purchasing, reduce unnecessary packaging, prioritise sustainable products and minimise emissions associated with the dental supply chain.
3. Waste Reduction and Recycling We aim to minimise waste through appropriate segregation, recycling, reduced paper consumption and responsible management of clinical and non-clinical waste, while maintaining all applicable infection prevention and control requirements.
4. Digital Transformation We will continue encouraging digital patient records, electronic communications, digital consent processes and paperless administration wherever appropriate to reduce printing, waste and unnecessary resource consumption.
5. Sustainable Travel We will encourage efficient appointment scheduling, appropriate use of remote meetings, sustainable commuting and reduced unnecessary travel associated with staff, patients and suppliers.
6. Education and Staff Engagement We will promote environmental awareness amongst our dental professionals, clinical support teams and administrative staff, encouraging practical sustainability improvements throughout our organisation.
Carbon Reduction and Monitoring Smile Clinic Group is committed to developing and progressively strengthening its approach to carbon measurement and reduction. Our objectives include: - Establishing a documented emissions baseline covering relevant operational and supply-chain activities. - Identifying opportunities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. - Developing measurable carbon reduction objectives. - Reviewing environmental performance annually. - Incorporating sustainability considerations into operational planning and procurement decisions. We recognise the importance of transparent reporting and will seek to publish updated information as our carbon reduction programme develops.
NHS Net Zero Alignment Smile Clinic Group supports the NHS commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2045 for emissions it can influence through its supply chain. We will seek to align our environmental improvement programme with NHS sustainability priorities and applicable guidance for NHS suppliers. Governance and Accountability Environmental sustainability will be overseen by Smile Clinic Group's senior management team, with responsibility for supporting implementation across our dental practices. Environmental objectives will be reviewed periodically, with opportunities for improvement incorporated into our operational and procurement processes.
